Breast Cancer Support Groups

DID YOU KNOW?

The Breast Care nurses are here for you. We will see you as many times as you want by appointment either at the hospital or at home.

The set times you will be seen by the Breast Care Nurses are:- at the time of diagnosis, on the ward and at the follow up appointment usually a week after surgery. If for any reason you are not seen at these times we will phone you at home.

There is a voicemail service for times when we are not in the office. Please don't be put off by this. If you leave your name and telephone number we will ring you back. Please have a pen and paper ready as you will be given different numbers to phone depending on your problem.

Families are also welcome to talk to us if you feel it would help them to do so.

A local support group is run for women diagnosed with breast cancer. You should have been given details about the group when seen by the breast care nurse. Please ask if you did not receive them.

All patients have the option to meet with someone who has had breast cancer. Please ask the breast care nurses if you would like us to arrange this for you.

You can ask switchboard to bleep the breast care nurses if your call is urgent 01622 729000 bleep 394. If we do not answer it is because we are with a patient and are not able to leave them.

The breast care nurses do not work at weekends and bank holidays. Any message left on these days will be returned on the next working day. If your enquiry is urgent please contact Mr Jones secretaries 01622 224343 (weekdays) Mercer Ward 01622 224384 (Bank Holidays and Weekends)

Very occasionally both breast care nurses are away at the same time in our absence Mr Jones secretaries can be contacted on 01622 224343

There is a counseling service in the hospital. If you feel you would like to use it then the breast care nurses can refer you.

The breast care nurses will contact you by letter 8 months after your diagnosis. You do not have to wait for this follow up letter. You can phone us at any time however long it is after you have had breast cancer.

Bosom Buddies- Support Group for Women who's Breast Cancer has returned. The group meet between 2-4 pm on the 3rd Monday of every month in oncology.

CHICKS - Care Help Information Cancer Kickers- We are a group of younger women who have had breast cancer and would like to help you by forming a support group. We are aiming to have regular meetings at a health club and to organise activities that are positive, upbeat and help us back to good health. Look Good Feel Better Group- A free service offering advice on skincare and makeup, together with a terrific gift of products to women undergoing treatment for cancer. 12 places each month.
